Dear Saint William,

It is a great privilege to lead such a dynamic and vibrant Catholic community here at Saint William. I am sure you will agree with me that we are blessed to have a parish of so many faithful families.

Year after year, I am amazed at the remarkable growth and countless strides Saint William has achieved in our faith formation program which now has the ability to respond to the pastoral needs of all parishioners, from the most senior citizens to the very young.  As such, Saint William has become one of the most impressive and active parishes, well known throughout the diocese for our innovative and engaging youth ministry program. In keeping with this tradition of progress, I am writing to share with you an exciting new step for our ministry to youth.

In a recent letter to the bishops of the United States, Pope Francis wrote, “Our great challenge is to create a culture of encounter which encourages individuals and groups to share the richness of their traditions and experience; to break down walls and to build bridges.” At Saint William, we are prayerfully discerning ways to meet this challenge by working to build a community of intentional disciples in which we celebrate our diversity and share our gifts.

I am happy to announce that beginning this fall, we will combine Rebaño Sagrado and SWYM youth groups to form a new, united youth program. This new group will be under the capable leadership of Chris Bartlett, Director of Youth Ministry, and the catechists and Core Team from both programs. We are in the process of hiring a bilingual coordinator for youth ministry to share in this great endeavor. Combining our two youth programs will allow us the opportunity to share the gifts and resources of both, resulting in a stronger and more unified community. If you are interested in helping bring this vision to reality, please email youthministry@saintwilliams.org to find out how you can volunteer to serve in this dynamic program.

Our teens are leaders of the Church of today, and will continue to be the leaders of the Church in the next generation, so join me in prayer for this exciting, new ministry endeavor, and pray that we may all bear witness to the faith with love and hope.

Grace and Peace,

Fr. Dean E. Wilhelm, Pastor
