Marriage Preparation Coordinator


Job Summary
The Marriage Preparation Coordinator will oversee the Witness to Love marriage preparation program.

The position reports to the Director of Adult Faith Formation under some supervision with latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

Essential Job Duties

  • All duties as assigned
  • The Marriage Ministry coordinator and any volunteers directly supervised by them must exhibit the capacity to work well with the overall staff of Saint William.
  • Oversee and manage the Witness to Love (WTL) marriage preparation program
  • Promote the vision for marriage preparation  at Saint William from the foundational book, Witness to Love: How to Help the Next Generation Build Marriages that Survive and Thrive
  • Carry out orientation and couple assessment (Prepare-Enrich)
  • Organize and coordinate engaged couples retreat
  • Case management – collect/organize paperwork, ensure deadlines are met
  • Communication – meet, email and call couples; consult with Director of Adult Faith Formation
  • Recruitment/Outreach – create pool of volunteer sponsor couples, seek connections with ministries that will collaborate with WTL program       
  • Supervise involvement and training of volunteer team to work at retreat
  • Order materials and work within a budget
  • Seek to improve personal and leadership skills and abilities through formation and professional development
  • Offers guidance to inquirers with marriage and family life issues and refers them to the appropriate pastoral or professional helps
  • Provide required record keeping and correspondence in regards to the recording of sacramental records of marriages, as well as maintaining accurate files of couples participating in the marriage prep program.
  • Ensure Diocesan policy is followed and executed in all areas of adult ministry especially as applies to Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM). Provide accurate and updated data of EIM compliant adults.
  • Optional - Conduct Natural Family Planning course if certified


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Roman Catholic teachings, parish and diocesan structure.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural parish serving various cultures and a wide range of age groups.
  • Ability to provide exceptional communication and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity.
  • Ability to build authentic relationships with adults rooted in Christ.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Ability to operate various word-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and utilize effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks, deadlines, and to implement creative solutions.
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
  • Ability to proficiently communicate in English and Spanish (writing, reading and conversing)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual English-Spanish (proficient in writing, reading and conversing).
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft® Office, working knowledge of (or ability to learn) ChurchDB and website tools.


  • Bachelor degree in a social science or 3 years experience working with couples
  • Natural Family Planning certification preferred
  • Theology of the Body Certification preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period
