As we walk through Lent, some members of our community begin their final journey towards the Church. Thirty-three youth and adults will join God’s family through Baptism, witness our faith to others through Confirmation, and enter communion with the Lord and His Church through their First Holy Communion at Easter Vigil. Our Mother the Church provides rites that prepare their souls for the purification and new life of Baptism.
All participating in the 9:30 am or 1:30 pm Masses on the 3rd through 5th Sundays of Lent will see the adult catechumens receive a blessing, then be dismissed for the Scrutinies. Led in the Scrutinies to a profound application of the Gospel to their lives, they will recognize the effect of sin and the freedom from sin that Baptism and the Sacraments will grant them. All of us already baptized should make a good examination of conscience, recognize sin’s effects, and seek God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation to renew baptismal grace in our hearts as we prepare to celebrate the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for our adults and children preparing to receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil!
